Super-8
Stereophonic Sound

Running Time 8 minutes

Thirty years ago I moved from Radcliffe to the edge of Birtle, a historic area between Bury and Rochdale. The valley of Cheesden Brook lies about a mile to the north and was originally an industrial valley with a line of water-driven cotton mills.

Much of the remains of the mills have either gone or are covered with vegetation now, but yet the area still commands a great deal of interest from local people who like to see a countryside under change.

Awards:
The Ten Best 2002 - BEST FILM (The Geoff Wheeler Trophy)

The Ten Best 2002 - BEST EDITING (The Filmtek Trophy)

Remains of the mill race at Bircle Dene Mill in the Cheesden Valley

A mill at the north end of the valley still displays a great facade wall which shows how the mill looked. After being partially blown down in the great storm of 1990 the wall was restored by the Greater Manchester Archaeology Unit and is now safe again.
I was so pleased to get the top award in the Ten Best with this film. Not only the
BEST EDITED FILM but also BEST FILM. I went to the awards ceremony at Tadley in Hampshire in April 2003 to be presented with my trophies and certificates.
