Lines to 2000

Super 8
Mono sound

Running time 14 minutes

This film, which walked off with two of the Bury Cine Society's trophies and a One Star 'Ten Best' award concerns itself with a look at the Manchester 'Metrolink' Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system.
It opened between Bury, Manchester City Centre and Altrincham with plans to extend it to Manchester International Airport, Rochdale, Oldham and Ashton by the year 2000.

As we approached the new millennium it became obvious how little of the original targets had really been met, except that a new line is now open to Eccles and Salford Quays to serve the new Trafford Centre.
The film was made in the run-up to the failed Manchester Olympic 2000 bid and there are a number of references to this on the sound track. But to lovers of trams and rail transport, it is an interesting look at what was then a revolutionary step towards improving City Centre and Cross-City travel.
