The Pennine Way

The monument on Stoodley Pike, West Yorkshire

The most successful film I have ever made, and probably the most enjoyable to make.
It follows the first long-distance footpath in Britain from Edale in the Derbyshire Peak District to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders, a distance of around 270 miles through the most wild and dramatic scenery in Northern England.

I would say without hesitation that the most picturesque and dramatic section is between Middleton-in-Teesdale and Dufton. This follows the river Tees passing High Force, Cauldron Snout and High Cup - three major highlights in about 30 miles and all captured in wide-screen on the film.
The film has been shown several times locally, none more so than at the MET Studio Theatre here in Bury where at least four performances were completely sold out - to the delight of the management of the theatre.
Bury Cine Society have helped at all the presentations there and elsewhere since I took the epic film ‘on the road’.

This is the monument on Stoodley Pike above the Calder Valley near Hebden Bridge. The monument was erected to commemorate the Peace of Ghent and abdication of Napoleon.

After the long, 29-mile crossing of the Cheviots this view of the village green of Kirk Yetholm, in the Scottish Borders about six miles south of Kelso, must be one of the most welcome sights on the walk.
